Blatche, Balkman naasahan ng Mighty Sports

MANILA, Philippines — Wala pa ring kupas sina ex-Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player Andray Blatche at resident import Renaldo Balkman nang buhatin nila ang Mighty Sports-Phi-lippines sa championship sweep sa katatapos lamang na 31st Dubai International Basketball Tournament kahapon ng umaga sa Al Shabab Al Ahli Club.

Nagtala ng 25 puntos at 9-rebounds habang may 21 markers, 11 rebounds, 4-assists at 2-steals si Blatche sa 92-81 panalo ng Philippine representatives.

Bunsod nito, nakumpleto ng Mighty ang misyon nitong maging kauna-una-hang non-Middle Eastern team champion ng torneo sa UAE mega-city matapos ang 30 edisyon nito.

At malaking bahagi ng tagumpay na ito, ayon kay coach Charles Tiu, ay dahil sa dalawang pambato nila.

“Andray and Renaldo were great. They led this team. They were true pros,” ani Tiu kina 35-anyos na si Blatche at 33-anyos na si Balkman.

Nagrehistro si Balkman ng 18.3 puntos, 7.0 rebounds at 1.5 assists sa pitong laro para sa Mighty na nadala niya rin sa kampeonato ng 2019 William Jones Cup.

Si Blatche naman, sa unang salang niya simula noong 2019 FIBA World Cup, ay nagrehistro ng 17.0 puntos, 11.2 boards at 4.2 assists.

Ayon kina Bong Cuevas ng Creative Pacific Group na siyang major sponsor, Alex at Ceasar Wongchungking, may-ari ng Mighty Sports, ang panalo ng team ay kanilang  inihahandog sa mga Pinoy lalung-lalo na sa mga OFW sa Dubai na walang sawang sumuporta sa bawat laro ng koponan.

“We made history and became the first non-Middle Eastern team to win the Dubai tilt. Mighty sports team is very happy to be performing well and all these games, we dedicated it to the our hardworking kababayan in the UAE,” ayon kay Bong Cuevas.
