Kings binitiwan na si Cousins

MANILA, Philippines - Kumbinsido si Sacramento general manager Vlade Divac bago ang All-Star weekend na panahon na para pakawalan si ultra-talented center DeMarcus Cousins.

Bagama’t tila mahirap nang abutin ang inaasam na playoff berth, pinili ng Sacramento na i-trade si Cousins at forward Omri Casspi sa New Orleans kapalit ni Tyreke Evans, 2016 first-round draft pick Buddy Hield, Langston Galloway at first- and second-round draft picks ngayong summer.

Nang tanungin kung bakit hindi naghintay ng mas magandang offer bago ang  trade deadline nitong Huwebes, ang sagot ni Divac ay lalong lumikha ng mas maraming katanungan.

“Most likely we would get less because I had a better deal two days ago,” sabi ni Divac. “I don’t want to go into details. I don’t want to discuss the process.”

Makaka-teammate ngayon ni Cousins ang isa pang dating Kentucky big man na naging NBA All-Star na si Anthony Davis.

Si Cousins ay nag-a-average ng 27.8 points at 10.6 rebounds ngayong season at puwedeng maging free agent sa 2018 maliban na lang kung mapapapirma siya ng Pelicans ng All-Star caliber extension contract.

Hindi pa nananalo ang Kings ng higit sa 33 games sa isang season sapul nang kunin si Cousins bilang fifth overall noong 2010  draft at tila sawa na rin sila sa ugali nitong laging nakakagirian ang coaches, media members at officials.

Siya ang nangunguna sa paramihan ng technical fouls sa NBA sa kanyang 17 technicals ngayong season na naging sanhi ng one-game suspension sa kaagahan ng kasalukuyang buwan.

Masususpindi uli siya sa susunod niyang technical foul at tuwing ikalawang technical ay masususpindi siya sa huling bahagi ng regular season na ito.

Laging binabanggit ni Divac ang culture at character kapag nagpapaliwanag kung bakit nila ginawa  ang deal  at sinabi niyang  kailangan ng team ng pagbabago bagama’t  1 1/2 games lang ang layo nila sa Denver para sa final playoff spot sa Western Conference.

“I really love DeMarcus,” sabi ni Divac. “I think he’s a great kid. It just wasn’t a fit right now with what we’re trying to do. I wish him all the best.”
