Romasanta pinaalalahanan ang mga NSAs

MANILA, Philippines – Bagama’t maaga pa para humingi ng special invitation para sa mga  Pinoy athletes upang makalahok sa Rio Olympics, walang masama kung magtanong na ngayon ang mga national sports associations (NSAs) sa kani-kanilang international federations (IFs).

Pinaalalahanan kahapon ni Philippine Olympic Committee vice president Jose Romasanta ang mga  NSAs na may atletang may potensiyal na lumaban sa Olympics sa August para hindi sila mapag-iwanan.

Anumang araw ay magsisimula nang mag-imbita ang International Olympic Committee ng mga atleta mula sa iba’t ibang sports at iba’t ibang bansa na sumali sa Olympics kahit na hindi nakapasa sa kani-kanilang qualifying events.

Sinabi ni Romasanta na ang mga Filipino athletes na nahihirapang mag-qualify ay maaa-ring makasama sa Rio sa pamamagitan ng imbitas-yon ng IOC.

Sa ngayon, tanging si  Eric Shaun Cray ng track and field pa lamang ang nag-qualify sa Rio Olympics.

Marami na ang nagtangka ngunit nabigo pero marami pang qualifying events na naka-schedule hanggang July bago ang  Olympics.

Kung hindi sila magtatagumpay, ang tanging paraan para makarating ng Rio ay kung maiimbitahan ng International Olympic Committee.

Pinaalalahanan ni Romasanta ang mga NSAs na laging  makipag-usap sa kanilang IFs para maikonsidera ang kanilang mga atletang karapat-dapat na ikonsidera.

“In these qualifying events, you compete against the best in the world. You need to thread the needle to make it. But then again, the IOC knows that there has to be more athletes represented in the Olympics, not only those who passed the qualifying events,” sabi ni Romasanta. “The organizing committee said it’s not yet time to apply for the invitational places but since there are 206 countries in the IOC, if we don’t insist and show our interest, we might be forgotten and left behind.  “Ang amin lang paalala sa NSAs, hindi naman masama at wala namang mawawala kung kukulitin sila na, ‘Eto may atleta kami na for consi-deration.”
