3-leg, 5-stage race Ronda Pilipinas sa Pebrero na

MANILA, Philippines – Magkakaroon ng inobasyon ang Ronda Pilipinas na magdaraos ng ikaanim na edisyon  sa susunod na taon.

Ang pinakamalaking cycling race sa Pilipinas na inihahandog ng LBC at suportado ng Manny V. Pangilinan Sports Foundation, Petron, Mitsubishi, Versa Radio-Tech 1 Corp., Maynilad at Standard Insurance,  ay magdaraos ng  tatlong five-stage legs  na sisimulan ng Mindanao leg sa Feb. 20-27 mula sa Butuan City hanggang sa Cagayan de Oro at sa Malaybalay, Bukidnon.

Ang Visayas leg ay sa Marso at ang Luzon leg ay sa Abril.

Para makasabay sa international trend, gumawa ang mga Ronda organizers ng bagong inobasyon sa pamamagitan ng pagsasagawa ng kombinasyon ng road race, individual time trial at criterium races per leg.

“We need to adapt to the way races are done in the world stage as this project is to groom champions for flag and country,” sabi ni Ronda sports development head Moe Chulani. “And also, we want each cities, towns and provinces we visit will have a chance to see our riders and our race the whole day.”

Ipagpapatuloy din ng Ronda ang pagtulong sa PhilCycling, nasa ilalim ni Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino sa kanilang grassroots development program sa pagdiskubre sa mga potential talents  na sisikapin nilang  mapasama sa national team members.

Sa katunayan ang Ronda, nagbibigay ng milyun-milyong papremyo sa bawat stage at leg, ay magkakaroon ng tatlong magkakaibang overall winners mula sa Mindanao, Visayas at Luzon.

“Aside from the open elite division, we still have the Under-23 category because we believe that somewhere out there, there are gems in the rough waiting to be discovered,” ani Chulani.

Kinuha ng Ronda ang 3Q Sports na pinamumunuan nina Quin at Jojo Baterna katuwang si Rommel Bobiles, ang mga nasa likod ng matagumpay na Giro de Pilipinas sa Subic noong Oktubre, para mapalakas ang cycling sa bansa.

“On the side, we’re holding some mountain bike race as well as races for executives. Also, we’ll be having a community ride for everyone to allow them to get the feel of how it is riding with the Ronda caravan,” sabi ni Bobiles.

Opisyal na magsisimula ang Ronda sa Pebrero 20 sa pamamagitan ng road race sa Butuan City kasunod ang criterium sa Pebrero 21 at sa Pebrero 23 sa Cagayan de Oro at ang ITT sa Pebrero 25 sa Dahilayan, Manolo Fortich at isa pang criterium sa Pebrero 27 sa Malaybalay.
