Nietes walang balak labanan ang Nicaraguan ‘pound-for-pound’ king

MANILA, Philippines - Tila hindi seryoso si Filipino world light flyweight champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes na ma­kaharap si ‘pound-for-pound’ king Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez ng Nicaragua sa flyweight division.

Nang magkita sina Nietes at Gonzalez sa Me­xico ay inaasahan ng World Boxing Organi­zation light flyweight king na kakausapin siya ng Pinoy fighter para sa kanilang posibleng banggaan.

Ngunit wala siyang na­rinig mula kay Nie­tes.

“I met him in Mexi­co to talk about (a pos­­sible fight) and he didn’t want to,” sabi ni Gon­­zalez sa panayam ng Boxingscene.com sa pagtanggi ng tubong Mur­cia, Negros Occi­den­tal na harapin siya.

Sa press conference matapos dominahin si Mexican challenger Juan Alejo noong Oktubre 17 sa Carson, California ay inihayag ni Nietes na handa siyang labanan si Gonzalez sa flyweight division.

Kasalukuyang bitbit ni Gonzalez ang perpek­to niyang 44-0-0 win-loss ring record.

Marami ang nagsa­sa­bing kaya niyang dup­­likahin ang record na 49-0-0 nina Floyd Mayweather, Jr. at 1960’s heavyweight great Ro­cky Mar­ciano.

Kung ayaw ng 33-anyos na si Nietes na la­banan si Gonzalez ay may mga opsyon pang tinitingnan ang Nicaraguan.

Isa na dito ay ang re­­match kay Mexican Francisco Estrada, hu­mahawak sa WBA at WBO flyweight titles.
