2 gold inuwi ng Smart/MVPSF taekwondo team mula sa Korea

MANILA, Philippines - Muling binigyang karangalan ng SMART/MVP Sports Foundation taekwondo team ang Pilipinas sa paghahatid ng 13 medals tampok ang dalawang gold sa Korea Open championships kamakailan sa Chuncheon Gangwon-do, South Korea.

Kumopo si Junior kyorugi (free sparring) campaigner Beatrice Kassandra Gaerlan at ang poomsae (forms) senior women’s team na kinabibilangan nina Rinna Babanto, Jocel Lyn Ninobla at Juvenile Faye Crisostomo  ng gold medals dagdag ang tatlong silver at walong bronze para sa  SMART/MVP SF team sa week-long event na nilahukan ng 2,500 athletes mula sa 50 bansa.

Sina junior kyorugi bet Rryshel Jasmin Ramirez at senior kyorugi fighter Veroni-ca Garces kasama ang poomsae senior women’s mixed pair nina Patrick King Perez at Robiegayle Lee Navales ang mga nagsubi ng silver medals.

Ang mga bronze medal winners ay sina poomsae senior women’s individual performers Crisostomo na kabilang sa gold-medal champion team at Elizabeth Cesista bukod pa sa mga junior kyorugi bets na sina Mayn Yengele Coran, Raymundo Alombro III, Gian Carlo Gutierrez at Sal Luigi Estrada pati na ang mga senior kyorugi bets na sina Jenar Torillos at Pauline Louise Lopez.

“Our athletes deserve commendations for their auspicious showing.  Their long, rigorous training paid off,” sabi ni Philippine Taekwondo Association CEO Sung Chon Hong.

Sinibak ni Gaerlan ang mga nakalabang Koreans sa quarterfinals at semifinals bago pinabagsak ang Thai fighter, 3-2 sa gold-medal match.

Ang partisipasyon ng mga Pinoy sa torneong ito ay suportado ng PLDT, Philippine Sports Commission at Philippine Olympic Committee.
