Nietes, San Mig Mixers pararangalan sa PSA awards
MANILA, Philippines - Pararangalan ang pinakamatagal na world Filipino boxing champion at ang unang Grand Slam team sa Philippine Basketball Association sa nakaraang 18 taon sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Annual Awards Night na inihahandog ng Milo at San Miguel Corporation.
Si World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes at ang San Mig Coffee team na kumumpleto sa three-conference sweep sa nakaraang season ng PBA ay bibigyan ng rekognisyon ng pinakamatandang media organization sa Pebrero 16 sa 1Esplanade Mall ng Asia Complex.
Nalampasan ni Nietes ang seven-year reign ni Gabriel ‘Flash’ Elorde bilang pinakamatagal na Filipino world champion matapos talunin si Carlos Velarde noong Nobyembre.
Iginiya ni head coach Tim Cone, hinirang naman ang Mixers bilang unang PBA team na kumuha ng Grand Slam noong nakaraang season matapos ang Alaska noong 1996.
Ang iba pang bibigyan ng major award sa gala night kung saan tumatayo ang MVP Sports Foundation, Meralco at Smart bilang mga principal sponsors at ang Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) bilang major sponsor ay sina Youth Olympic Games gold medalist Gabriel Luis Moreno, Olympic figure skater Michael Christian Martinez, ang five-time NCAA men’s champion na San Beda Red Lions at sina PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo at UAAP superstar Kiefer Ravena.
Ang kukumpleto sa honor roll list para sa major awards sa taunang event na suportado rin ng PBA, ICTSI, PCSO, PAGCOR, Rain or Shine, Globalport, Air21, Maynilad, Accel at ng National University ay sina rider Mark Galedo, golfer Daniella Uy, chess player Mikee Charlene Suede, wushu bets Jessie Aligaga at Jean Claude Saclag, ang Philippine dragon boat team (dragon boat), ang Philippine poomsae team- (male under 30), Philippine poomsae team (freestyle), ang champion horse na Kid Molave at si jockey Jonathan Hernandez.
Si BMX racer Daniel Caluag ang 2014 PSA Athlete of the Year awardee.
Ang iba pang awardees ay si Cone (Excellence in Basketball), ang Mitsubishi (Hall of Fame), sina Princess Superal at Tony Lascuna (Golfers of the Year), Jean Pierre Sabido (Mr. Taekwondo) at ang 1973 Philippine men’s basketball team (Lifetime Achievement Award).
Ibibigay din sa PSA Awards ang President’s Award, Executive of the Year, Sports Patron of the Year at ang Tony Siddayao Awards.
