Isang karangalan kay Jawo ang maging coach ng Gilas

MANILA, Philippines - Matagal nang nagretiro si Robert “Sonny” Jaworski, Sr., kinikilalang living legend ng Phl basketball ngunit kung kukunin siyang maging coach ng Gilas Pilipinas ay hindi siya magdadalawang-isip na tanggapin ito.

 “My gosh, it’s a great honor if it will happen. Pero ‘yung sinabi niyo lang eh nasarapan na ako,” sabi ng 68-gulang na si Jaworski na dumalo sa basketball charity event sa Mall of Asia Arena kamakalawa ng gabi kung saan nakilala niya ang dating NBA superstar na si Allen Iverson.

Tinanong ng mga mediamen si Jaworski kung interesado siya sa posisyon matapos buwagin ang Gilas Pilipinas ng  Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) na kasalukuyang naghahanap ng bagong coach.

May bulung-bulungan na ang  Gilas/Talk ‘N Text consultant na si Tab Baldwin ang ipapalit kay Chot Reyes.

Sinabi ng  dating PBA MVP at isa sa 25 Greatest Players of All Time ng PBA na si Jaworki na hindi magiging madali ang pagmamando ng Gilas.

“It’s going to be a tough job but I think taking a serious look at it is not a bad idea. If you get the support of the group in basketball and the general public, you can’t go wrong,” sabi ni Jaworski, huling nag-coach noong 1998.
