MANILA, Philippines - Makakatapat ng Philippine men’s chess team ang Afghanistan para sa una nilang asignatura sa first round ng 41st World Chess Olympiad sa Tromso, Norway.

Itatampok ng koponan si Grand Master Eugene Torre na na­sa kanyang ma­­kasaysa­yang pang-22 Olympiad ap­pearance ka­tuwang si­na GMs Ju­lio Ca­talino Sadorra at John Paul Gomez, International Master Paulo Bersamina at pla­ying captain GM Jay­son Gonzales.

Gagamitin sa 11-round tournament ang match-point scoring format.

Si Sadorra ang magla­laro sa top board matapos lumipat si GM Wesley So sa United States Chess Fe­de­ration at maging as­sis­tant coa­ch.

Sina FIDE Masters Kooshani Mahbuboollah (2036) at Asefi Zaheeruddeen (1996) ang baban­dera para sa tropa ng Af­gha­nistan.

Sina Cheradine Camacho, Janelle Mae Frayna, Jan Jodilyn Fronda, Ca­the­rine Perena at Christy La­miel Bernales ang ta­ta­pat sa Palau.
