Inangkin ang kanilang pang-limang NBA title: Hindi na nagpaawat ang San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — Bi­nura ng San Antonio Spurs ang isang 16-point de­ficit sa first period para balikan ang Miami Heat, 104-87, sa Game 5 at ku­nin ang kanilang pang-li­mang NBA championship.

Naipaghiganti rin ng Spurs ang ma­sak­lap ni­lang kabiguan sa Heat no­ong nakaraang NBA Fi­nals.

Maliban dito ay ipi­nag­kait din ng Spurs sa Heat ang hangad nitong ikat­long sunod na korona.

“We wanted to redeem ourselves. I’m just glad we were able to do that,” sa­bi ni guard Tony Parker.

Humakot si Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard ng 22 points at 10 rebounds pa­ra sa Spurs, nagkampeon noong 1999, 2003, 2005 at 2007.

Abot-kamay na nila ang pang-lima nilang titulo noong nakaraang taon kundi lamang nanalo ang Heat ng dalawang sunod.

“I’ve said many times, a day didn’t go by where I didn’t think about Game Six,” wika ni Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich sa nakaraang finals. “So I think, just in general, for the group to have the for­titude that they showed to get back to this spot, I think speaks volumes about how they’re consti­tuted and what kind of fiber they have.”

Tinapos ng San Antonio ang kanilang best-of-se­ven series ng Miami sa 4-1.

Nadiskaril 12 buwan na ang nakararaan ng Mia­­mi Heat, sapat lamang ang paghihintay nila para sa victory party.

“It makes last year OK,” sabi ni center Tim Dun­can.

Sinamahan ni Duncan si John Salley bilang ta­nging mga players na na­nalo ng NBA title sa tat­long dekada.

 Tumipa ang Spurs ng malayang 28 percent sa first quarter kung saan sila iniwanan ng Heat ng 16 puntos bago rumesbak sa second quarter at agawin ang 47-40 abante sa halftime.

Umiskor sina Ginobili at Australian Patty Mills mula sa bench para ku­mamada ng 19 at 17 points ayon sa pagkakasunod, para sa San Antonio.
