Petecio pasok sa finals; 7 pa maasahan sa gold NAYPYITAW

NAYPYITAW -- Sumuntok si featherweight Nesthy Petecio ng 40-36 tagumpay kontra kay Tassamalee Tsongjan ng Thailand para makapasok sa gold medal round sa women’s boxing competition ng 27th Southeast Asian Games kahapon dito sa Wanna Theikdi Stadium.

Iginanti ni Petecio ang kanyang naunang kabiguan kay Tsongjan sa Asian Indoor Games sa Vietnam noong 2010.

Sa gold medal round ay makakalaban ni Petecio si Nwe Ni Oo ng Myanmar sa Huwebes.

Lima sa 10 amateur fighters ang nakakuha ng byes para makapasok sa semifinals habang si Jossie Gabuco ay diretso sa semis dahil kulang ang ntries sa kanyang dibisyon.

Ang mga ito ay sina flyweight Rey Saludar, bantamweight Mario Fernandez at middleweight Wilfredo Lopez sa men’s division at sina flyweight Maricris Igam at bantamweight Irish Magno.

Lalaban naman si Olympian light flyweight Mark Anthony Barriga sa quarterfinals kontra kay Vietnamese Hungh Ngoc Viet, samantalang makakatapat ni lightweight Junel Cantancio si Keochi Xayyasane ng Laos.

“We had a good draw but it doesn’t mean it’s going to be smooth sailing all through out. We’re aiming for golds and it’s not going to be easy pickings. We need to stay focused and not get lulled into complacency,” wika ni ABAP executive director Ed Piczon.

Umiskor naman si 2011 Palembang SEA Games gold medalist Dennis Galvan ng kumbinsidong panalo laban kay Ratha Svay ng Cambodia para sa kanyang unang laban.
