Problema ng Pinas at Taiwan hindi makakaapekto sa FIBA-Asia tournament

MANILA, Philippines - Kumpiyansa si FIBA-Asia secretary-general Hagop Khajirian ng Lebanon na hindi madadamay ang pagla-laro ng Gilas Pilipinas II at ng Chinese-Taipei sa 2013 FIBA-Asia Men’s Championships sa kasalukuyang diplomatic row sa pagitan ng dalawang bansa.

“We are practicing peace through basketball, and we are enjoying this for the last ten years. So we play basketball with the principle of sportsmanship,” wika ni Khajirian.

“There is no place for race or gender or politics or any kind of indignation. So we are not afraid that our championship will be a successful one,” dagdag pa ng FIBA-Asia official.

Hindi inimbitahan ng Taiwan ang Gilas Pilipinas II na makapagdepensa ng korona sa 2013 R. Williams Jones Cup na nakatakda sa susunod na buwan.

Ito ay dahil na rin sa sigalot ng Pilipinas at ng Taiwan matapos mabaril ang isang Taiwanese fisherman noong Mayo.

Dahil sa kawalan ng imbitasyon para sa Jones Cup ay humahanap ang Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas ng paraan para mahasa ang Nationals bilang pagha-handa sa FIBA-Asia tournament.

Isang mini-tournament ang pinaplano ng SBP kung saan makakaharap ng Gilas II ang mga koponan ng United States, New Zealand, Kazakhstan at Australia.
