BMX rider Caluag may gold medal sa BMX Asian Continental

MANILA, Philippines - Kinuha ni Filipino-American rider Daniel Caluag ang gintong medalya sa 8th BMX Asian Continental Championships sa Singapore.

Kumaripas ang 26-anyos na si Caluag, ang tanging Asian rider na nakalahok sa 2012 Olympic Games sa London, sa bilis na 29.951 segundo para magkampeon sa men’s elite race, ang main event ng nasabing kompetisyon.

Ito ang kauna-una-hang gold medal ng bansa sa Asian BMX event.

Binigo ni Caluag sina Tatsumi Matsushita (30.306) at Jukia Yoshimura (30.448) ng Japan sa naturang 355-meter long course.

“I knew that the rest were all going to be fast and I am happy that I could put together a solid lap in the main event,” sabi ni Caluag, tubong Bulacan. “I had a great time here and I would love to come back with my wife and explore the city. It is a beautiful country.”

Ang isa pang Pinoy ri-der na si Nino Marin Eday ay tumapos na ika-16.

Si Caluag, lumalaban sa United States circuit, ang ikatlong Filipino cyclist na nakalahok sa Olympics matapos sina Domingo Villanueva at Norberto Oconer na lumahok sa road race noong 1992 Games.
