SMBeer palalakasin nina Taulava, Menk at Austria

MANILA, Philippines - Sa hangaring makuha ang kanilang kauna-una-hang korona sa Asean Basketball League (ABL) ngayong season, hinugot ng San Miguel Beermen ang mga beteranong sina Asi Taulava at Eric Menk.

Kasabay nito, kinuha ng Beermen si Leo Austria bilang bagong head coach kapalit ni Bobby Parks.

Ang 39-anyos na si Asi Taulava at ang 38-anyos na si Eric Menk ang inaasahang mangunguna sa Beermen, pinayukod ng Indonesia Warriors sa nakaraang ABL finals.

“They’re in excellent shape, like they’re out to prove something,” wika ni San Miguel director of sports Noli Eala. “Our goal is to win the title and they’ll play a major role.”

Kaagad na makakatapat ng Beermen ang Warriors sa Enero 11 sa Jakarta.

Ipaparada rin ng Beermen ni Austria sina imports Gabe Freeman at Brian Williams para sa ABL season.

Maliban kina Taulava at Menk, nasa line-up din ng San Miguel sina Leo Avenido, R. J. Rizada, Christian Luanzon, Chris Banchero, Axel Doruelo, Paolo Hubalde, J. R. Cawaling, Val Acuna, Mike Burtscher at Hans Thiele.

Ang 6-foot-5 na si Freeman ay isang two-time PBA Best Import awardee, habang ang 6’10 na si Williams ay nagposte ng mga averages na 20.8 points at 14.4 rebounds para sa Westports Malaysia Dragons sa ABL sa nakaraang season.

Para palakasin ang katawan ng mga Beermen, kinuha ng koponan si mixed martial arts fighter Nico D’Haenen bilang strength and conditioning coach.

Si D’Haenen, isang Belgian, ay may mahabang karanasan na bilang performance enhancing specialist sa mga atletang nasa ilalim ng Philippine Sports Commission at siya ring conditioning coach ng Homeless World Cup soccer team.
