Alcala nabigo sa World Juniors Badminton

MANILA, Philippines - Yumukod si Malvinne Ann Alcala kay No. 9 seed Aka­ne Yamaguchi ng Japan, 14-21, 15-21, at nabigong makapasok sa quarterfinal round ng wo­men’s singles sa 2012 World Juniors Badminton Championships sa Chiba, Ja­pan.

Nauna munang tinalo ni Alcala si fifth seed Line Kjaersfeldt via straight sets, 21-19, 21-16, bago si­nibak ni Yamaguchi.

Isang walkover win ang nakamit ng 16-anyos na si Alcala kay Thilini Hen­dahewa ng Sri Lanka sa first round kasunod ang kan­yang 17-21, 21-11, 21-16 pananaig laban kay Mae­tenee Phattanaphito­on ng Thailand sa second round.

Matapos ipagpag si Kjaersfeldt, nanghi­na naman si Alcala, nag­kampe­on sa 19-under di­vision ng na­karaang Swiss Interna­tio­nal Junior Championships, sa kanilang laro ni Ya­maguchi.

Nauna nang napatalsik sa kontensyon sina Joella De Vera at Mark Alcala, nag­hari sa 17-under class ng  Swiss Juniors.

Natalo si De Vera kay Flo­re Vandenhoucke, 16-21, 7-21, habang yumukod naman si Mark Alcala kay Pratul Joshi, 16-21, 8-21.

Bago ito, ginitla muna ni De Vera si Dilrabo Ah­medova ng Uzbekistan, 21-7, 21-10, at iginupo ni Mark Alcala si Sinan Zor­lu ng Turkey, 13-21, 21-13, 21-19.

Sa iba pang resulta, tu­miklop si John Kenneth Mon­terubio kay Fabian Roth, 16-21, 19-21, natalo si Ros Pedrosa kay Jonathan Dolan, 8-21, 12-21, na­bigla si Marina Caculitan kay Sun Yu, 2-21, 5-21, at nakatikim ang mi­­xed doubles team nina Ge­­­rald Sibayan at Kristel Sa­­latan ng 21-19, 17-21, 18-21 pagkatalo kina Andrew D’Souza at Christin Tsai.
