Ogie, never sumubok sa singing contest

Ogie Alcasid

“Real talk, I wasn’t built for this. I never won a singing contest. You know why? Because I never joined, because I knew there were so many other that were better than me. So, I started writing songs about myself, how I felt and then I started singing them on my own. That was my turn,” natatawang pahayag ni Ogie.

“That is my advice. Talk to yourself, really ask yourself how bad do you need this. Gusto ko ba maging kampeon? And then watch yourself. You know how to make yourself better. You’ve already honed your talent and you know what it feels like when you’ve nailed a performance. So, I think it’s really more of a mental thing. Kausapin n’yo ‘yung sarili n’yo,” nakangiting pahayag niya.

I think there have been many opportunities that I thought were meant for me but never transpired. And of course, it comes with greater disappointment. Parang ikamamatay mo ‘pag hindi mo makuha, di ba? Pero minsan, I think at this point in my life, what I’ve embraced is, I know that there is a better plan for me, from the Man above.  I will just take whatever is for me. At the end of the day really, I am thankful and grateful that I have a family. I have a wonderful wife, and children that I have. That’s my priority. Everything else is secondary. As long as I am able to do what I’m doing which is to write music and sing, that’s all I care about,” makahulugang paliwanag ng singer-composer.

“Tunog ngayon, these are like my personal picks, growing up, listening to these songs from my mom and dad. Ito ‘yung mga songs na me and my dad would jam along when I was a kid,” bungad ni Patrick.

“Idol ko talaga sa pagkanta si Sir Gary V. He has always been my idol ever since. I always watch his show. He has been so inspiring for me as an artist also and as someone I really look up to. One of my favorite songs, especially ballads nga, is more like of Gary V’s ‘How Did You Know.’ It’s one of my most picked songs talaga kapag kumakanta ako sa karaoke,” pagbabahagi ng binata.

“I will be releasing an original song. I don’t have a date yet, but it will come up soon under EMI and Cornerstone Music din. I wrote about this song na words are kind of like a broken song, na parang you are in a relationship with someone. So, it’s a love song,” paglalahad ng singer. — Reports from JCC
