Ang Mundo ng Mondo

Mundo na ni Mondo Castro ang musika. (pwede ba ako sumama sa mundo mo, bro?!) Kahit pa man may iba syang pinagkakaabalahan bilang leadership training facilitator, hindi nya kinakalimutan ang pagiging musikero. (parang we play good music together bro!) Nitong July lang, nagtatag sya ng bagong grupo, na sinunod sa kanyang pangalang Mondo. (dapat sinama mo name ko!)

“I have toyed with the idea of going solo or having a project where I can use the songs that haven’t not been arranged for The Pin-Up Girls (my other band). Also, people have been urging me to do it, to expand my reach. People like Rick Olivares, journalist and owner of Eikon Records,”pagpapaliwanag ni Mondo. (duo tayo bro!)

Si Mondo (The Pin-Up Girls) ang vocals and guitar, kasama nya ang mga iginagalang na mga pangalan sa local indie music scene tulad nina: Drei Paman (Gaia & Andrei) on lead guitar, Dax Balmeo (Paranoid City) on rhythm guitar, Gaia Royeca (Gaia & Andrei) on keyboards and backing vocals, Mico Marasigan (Jetcoaster) on drums, and Lui Rodriguez (Rubber Pool, Caren Tevanny, Peso Movement) on bass. (powerhouse di ba?!)

“Indie bands nowadays have a lot of creative freedom and tons of platforms to showcase their songs. The problem now is the quality of work as anyone can upload songs,” paglalahad ni Mondo. (may song ka ba for me, bro?!)

Ang una nilang pasabog ay ang kanilang single na “If I Tell You Why” na kanilang ilulunsad sa November 16 sa Saguio Café and Bar. (with matching pa music video pa ha!) “I wrote it. Found some old lyrics then came up with the melody in 20 minutes! All while afflicted with Covid! LOL.” (nakakaloka!)

Masaya ang Mondo sa independent band scene at patuloy na mangagarap para sa industryang ito. “Maybe play at international festivals. To be recognized all over the world as a source of intelligent music.”(ay ako feeling intelligent lang!)

Aminado silang may ibang kasikatan ang P-pop at K-pop ngayon sa bansa, pero para sa kanila ay hindi mawawala ang kanilang music genre na may fresh perspective sa folk, rock at blue sounds. “To each his own, I guess. I just hope that Filipinos support local acts like how they do K-Pop artists.” O each his own, I guess. I just hope that Fili-pinos support local acts like how they do K-Pop artists.” (I support you, bro!)
