“As a very young kid, I got myself exposed to pageantry because my late father used to be the President of the Press Photographers of the Philippines. Their orga-nization used to run the Miss PPP search and early on, my dad would always bring me and my mom to the glamorous coronation events of the pageant. The sparkle of pageantry got me hooked to the whole thing.”

Pilipinas noon!)

“Missologist or missosologist is a term coined by pageant fans who claim expertise on the subject of pageantry. There is no exact science or even a degree that is required to gain such a title, just a certain level of knowledge and understanding on the history, trends and even trivia about beauty pageants, in general. In a pageant crazed nation like ours, there are a lot of pageant fans who call themselves such. In my case, rather than being called a missologist or missosologist, I’d rather call myself a pageant aficionado or even a pageant supporter. More than being a fan, I really try to support pageantry the best way I can, given the resources and capabilities that I can to the industry. “ Paliwanag ni Joee (ay mayaman. May budget!)

“Everyone has his or her standard of fulfilment. In my case, since I have become an actual supporter of Philippine pageantry, it is being able to have a hand in winning honors for the country and being able to help realize somebody else’s dream” sabi ni Joee (para sa ekonomiya!

“I’ve got two. One is joining a fitness pageant a few years back just to get a feel how it is like to be an actual participant (fortunately, I won!). And second, judging in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant last year, which can very well be the realization of every pageant fan’s dream. (dapat may sash ito ‘pag nagbabalita on cam!)

Hindi naman daw  ito nagiging hadlang sa kanyang pagiging Newscaster ng PTV News Tonight, Anchor ng Ulat sa Bayan, Host ng Rise and Shine at Director for Corporate Communications ng Resorts World Manila (pakyawan ha!)

“If you come to think of it, everything that I do is all complimentary. They are mostly in the field of communications. Helping prep our ladies for the “supposedly” dreaded Q and A, is a comms function. Having television, tourism and hospitality as my careers, I am also allowed to bring in mutual benefits to both pageantry and the companies and fields that I represent. In terms of physical and time demands, well, it is all a matter of good time management and prioritization.

“We’re still in our golden age as far as pageantry is concerned. Over the last decades, thanks mostly to the efforts of the various pageant camps we have, the Philippines has actually emerged as a pageant powerhouse along with Venezuela. We’re recognized as the best in Asia, for now. While I can see our chances to remain bright, there is simply no monopoly of beauty and smarts. Given the rigid training that our ladies go through in preparation for their international competitions, our delegates will continue to be up there in the lists somehow. However, we should also be realistic in thinking not every year will be our year. “  (lakas maka-Miss Philippines ng hanash ha!)
