Tulad ng “Why are certain actors typecast?
“Is fan mentality an illness?
“Why are some actors afraid of playing gay roles?
“What happens after actors have shot an intimate scene?
“Have you considered the evolution of Tagalog film titles, from Nabasag ang Banga to Pag-ibig sa Kapirasong Banig to The Panti Sisters?”
Ilan lang ‘yan sa mga issue na malalaman ng mga babasa sa kanyang kauna-unahang libro na PH Movie Confidential ang pamagat.
Gaganapin ang book launching this afternoon, 2:00 p.m. sa FDCP Cinematheque in Manila in cooperation with the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd).
The slim volume of 130 glossy pages, says Sir Nestor, is also a humble collection of essays about trends, practices, beliefs, quirks and movements that helped shape the Philippine movie industry then (and now).
Ito rin ay resulta ng kanyang pagiging isang masugid na moviegoer sa nakalipas na anim na dekada. “Let’s just say a good chunk of those years had been spent as a close, firsthand observer of the industry as a working journalist covering the entertainment beat,” sabi pa ni Sir Nes na isa ring professor.
Published by Ultimate Learning Series by Carl Balita Review Center (CBRC) in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), PH Movie Cofidential ay partial record of Sir Nestor’s years as a movie fan and entertainment journalist writing for both the Manila Bulletin and Tempo.
It also covers a wide range of subjects that could interest, or maybe, inspire fans, students, lovers and researchers of Philippine movies about what was and what could still become.
He was a long-time editor at the Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation, for which he has won several awards in journalism.
Among these are: Grand Prize in Primer Premio de Periodismo given by Instituto Cervantes in 2000; First Prize in the 2007 La Sallian Scholarum Awards for coverage of youth and education issues in media; 2010 Binhi Awards’ Environment Journalist of the Year from the Philippine Agricultural Journalists (PAJ).
The book, which sells at a promotional price of 400 pesos only per copy (excluding shipping), can be sourced at over 100 CBRC schools all over the Philippines. Orders are also welcome through [email protected] or via mobile phone 0917-800-5986.
