Rico hindi nalilimutan ‘pag Semana Santa
Rico Yan

Caluag kahapon :

“Holy Week, 19 years ago, we received the news on Good Friday of Rico’s death in Palawan. The two weeks prior to his death, starting around the time of his birthday, Rico painfully went through the process of spiritual and psycho-emotional healing. At the turning point of that process, he started to articulate his mission.
“In my last conversation with him, Tuesday of Holy Week, we talked about what he could reflection on and pray over during his Holy Week break.
“He was also excited to begin his process of going through a spiritual formation journey to begin to live out his mission. He asked me to guide him and requested if we could have weekly spiritual conversations.
“We set Easter Monday for our first spiritual conversation for this journey. We would first have dinner with his mom in O Kitchen beside the Padre Pio Chapel on C.P. Garcia, then have that first conversation.
“I remember making a mental note after that Tuesday conversation. His process of healing and seeing with clarity his mission was somewhat fast. It helped that he was a very intelligent, articulate, reflective and spiritual person, but I wanted to make sure the process was not “spiritualized,” thus glossing over the psycho-emotional concerns that would need to be healed and made whole.
“When I received the news of his death and through the days of his wake, seeing the tens of thousands who came to pay their respects, lining up all the way from the corner of EDSA and Boni Serrano to La Salle Greenhills, I told myself, “This is why the mission became very clear so soon.”
“I have come to believe that we all come into this world for a mission. We leave this world and go home to God once we accomplish this mission. Rico clearly saw and articulated his mission days before he passed and went home to God.
Right after I received the news of Rico’s death, one of my close friends who knew how close Rico was to me, called me as I drove back to Ateneo de Manila from Muntinlupa.
She shared with me one the beliefs from ancient wisdom, that at times when the soul sees it can better achieve its mission in the other world, it decides to cross over.”
