VICTORious Role

E-Group: Tell us about your role.

Victor: My role is David. As of now, I don’t have an exclusive
contract with GMA like other artists. I think ang GMA started to be
more conservative when it comes to exclusive contracts.

E-Group: Freelance ka? Paano ka napunta sa GMA?

Victor: Actually, I’m not freelance. I’m being managed, by Arnold Vegafria and I enjoy working with a lot of networks. Although it’s
ideal to have a network contract especially if there’s a role that you
want to try out for, it’s not exactly open to you kung nakatali ka sa
isang network.

E-GROUP: You auditioned for this role, not Vincent?

Victor: Yes, I auditioned for this. I actually auditioned for Vincent
but I guess they wanted someone na yung, I don’t know. I got the role
of David. I guess yun yung idea ni Direk.

Victor: I didn’t have to prepare for this. But I prepared for this in
a sense na I memorize my lines, but as for the emotions I think to be
in love is universal naman po yan. Hindi naman kaysa dahil mahal mo
yung tao who just happens to be a male also, mag-iiba yung level ng
pagmamahal.

E-GROUP: So this is your third time to play a gay role?

Victor: Yes, this is the third time. The first one was yung sa Maling Akala and then I also played one for Your Song with Joross Gamboa.

E-GROUP: What’s your different take now?

Just the nuances and I think yun ang kailangan na maipakita sa
It’s uso
siguro pero it shows a different na demographic.

E-GROUP: Divine (Lee) is a gay icon.

Victor: She’s trying to give me so many tips. But I said, thank you for the help but I have to plot out this character, develop this character on my own. But of course, it has to be real. And minsan nga yung iba nagtatanong ‘sino ba ang peg mo?’ I can’t be a peg kasi, for example, I’ll imitate somebody. Alam ng viewers na you’re imitating somebody.

Hindi na totoo yung character mong yun. You won’t be a fresh
character. May chance ka na maging caricature. Kaya as for the peg,
kumbaga I’m eclectic in choosing my gay traits.

E-GROUP: Are you not afraid na ma stereotype ka as gay since this is the third time you played gay roles?

Victor: Well, to tell you honestly, the first film that I did, it was more of implied din. I think I trust our audience naman. I think
Kaya at the same time, I think people want to see actors na talagang napapanood nila in very varied roles.

How come he doesn’t know another story?

E-GROUP: People ask, kumakapit ba si David sayo in your day to day living?

Victor: David’s character is like, you wake up your David. You bring him to the set. Then the next day, you do something that’s exclusively me. Like maglilinis ako ng kotse or mag-gym. David’s character naman is not hard to shake off. You don’t have to. Yan yung nice thing about our story. Hindi siya extremes. The characters are very believable and hindi siya OA.

E-GROUP: Was there a time na nagwa-gwapuhan ka sa isang lalaki?

Like Ethan Hawke. Filipino si Richard Gomez, yun yung mga tipo na the image and character ng tao. Diba nga may tinatawag nga man-crush. Yung parang iniidolo mo. You wanna be like him, wanna emulate.

E-GROUP: If you go online, may mga nagdududa at kumukwestyon sa iyong sexuality. How secure are you with your sexuality?

Victor: I’m very secure with my sexuality. I don’t think anyone who’s medyo shaky yung sexuality will accept the role. I think so. And Im very secure. There was one time naglalakad ako may bata na tumawag sakin. Uy Victor Basa! Diba sa GMA ka diba, sa My
Husband’s Lover. I guess it shows na kung may nagdududa, ibig sabihin effective ka to some extent.

Victor: Not really because I’m at an age na I appreciate na they’re
talking about me. Na never ko naman silang na meet. Ano yan eh. It’s either you’re misunderstood or nakakatuwa ka.

E-GROUP: Diba you live together with Divine. Ano yung next level? Kelan kayo magpapakasal?

Victor: As of yet, no plans pa. Kasi ang kailangan natin ay maging mas stable at marami pa akong gustong gawin. Youg guys will know… Hindi years yan, feelings yan eh. It could be next year, two years. It’s love, if you feel it, yun na. wala ka nang control dun. (BANAT NEWS)
