‘A friendship gone from sour to bitter’

Despite her tight showbiz schedule, Valerie Concepcion manages to surf the internet. Dito nadiskubre ni Val ang kung tawagin ay “resveratrol,’ a substance which is commonly found in red wine. At gaya ng alam ng marami, red wine is the most  indispensable quaff on any French dining table.

Minsan ding narinig ni Val kung paanong pinuri ni Oprah Winfrey ang nasabing substance na ito, which happens to be the active ingredient of Slenda, the latest herbal dietary supplement to have hit the market.

A  twangy pronunciation of the word “slender,” the choice kung sino ang ideal endorser nito—si Val nga—fits to a T. Slender and tender, Val is an inspiration to women of various ages to avoid becoming overweight or obese.

At the product launch, tinanong ko ang single parent na si Val if there’s a clause anywhere in her contract with Slenda that stipulates that she’s not supposed to get pregnant within a given period of time. Meron daw, as long as the contract exists. Val is tied to the agreement for 18 months, which means she will have to be more careful (unless she’s loveless).

Cliché nang masasabi ang “no permanent friends nor enemies, only interests.” But in the case of Roxy Liquigan and John Lapus, they had gone full circle—from friends to enemies and now to individuals protecting their own interests.

Roxy, the adorable ABS-CBN guy, now owns the two-storey resto bar called Toma X on Sct. Esguerra St., na dating pag-aari ni John under a different business name. ‘Ika nga, it was Roxy’s way of pursuing a venture, and at the same time, salvaging a friend from financial distress nu’ng mga panahong ultimo sirang aircon unit ay ibinenta pa ni John!

In his blog, hindi  man pinangalanan ni John ay isa si Roxy sa mga binira niya as having no sense of gratitude, trashing their ages-old sisterhood altogether. Hindi maiwasang sumama ang loob ni Roxy for treating the matter too showbizzy gayong negosyo—at labas ang showbiz—ang isyu.

John even had the temerity and the audacity to text Roxy a message of “pasensya na” when at that very precise moment ay nasiraan na niya ito sa ilang members of the press.

A friendship gone from sour to bitter, hindi dapat panghinayangan ni Roxy ang ipinundar niyang emotional investment kay John. Ever since, I have never liked John, and he knows that. In fairness though to him, he’s a better actor in stereotype gay roles than a TV host pretending to be one.
