Ateneo volley teams nagsasanay sa Japan

MANILA, Philippines —  Sumasabak sa matin­ding training ang Ateneo Blue Eagles women’s at men’s volleyball team sa Japan para paghandaan ang nalalapit na pagbubukas ng 87th season ng University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) volleyball tournament sa susunod na buwan.

Pumapalo ng bola sa training camp ang parehong volleyball squad sa isang pribadong unibersidad sa Kobe Shinwa University sa Kobe, Japan, kasama nila si Ateneo volleyball program director Sherwin Malonzo.

Nabawasan ng ma­tinding armas ang women’s squad dahil sa paglisan ni veteran libero, Roma Mae Doromal, pero mananati­ling matikas ang three-time UAAP champions, nasa kanila pa rin sina Lyann De Guzman, Geezel Tsunashima, playmaker Taks Fujimoto at middle blocker Alexis Ciarra ‘AC’ Miner.

Pakay ng koponanan na makabawi sa pagkakamintis sa pagpasok sa Final Four noong nagdaang season matapos ang 5-9 finish sa fifth place.

Maliban sa nabanggit na beteranong manlalaro ay makakatulong din sa koponan ni Brazilian coach Sergio Veloso sina Faye Nisperos, Jennifer Delos Santos, Sophia Buena, Sarar Hugo, Rosal Selga, Yvanna Sulit at rookies Kat Cortez at Zey Pacia, habang ipaparada ng Lady Blue Eagles ang mga baguhan sa darating na bagong season.

Huling beses nagkampeon ang Lady Eagles noong Season 81 sa panahon nina Deanna Wong, Bea De Leon, Vanie Gandler at Maddie Mada­yag nang talunin ang UST Golden Tigresses noong 2018-2019 season.
