Duterte habambuhay na sa ICC prison - Solon

MANILA, Philippines — Posible umanong makulong ng habambuhay si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa detention ­facility ng International Criminal Court sa The Hague, Netherlands kaugnay ng paglilitis sa kaso nitong ‘crimes against humanity’.

“He is facing 43 counts of murder in the crimes against humanity case. One conviction alone for each count (or killing) is more than enough to put him away,” pahayag ni House Deputy Majority Leader Paolo Ortega.

Ang 79-anyos na dating pangulo ay magdaraos na ng ika-80 kaarawan sa Marso 28.

Sinabi ni Ortega na alinsunod sa panuntunan ng ICC, ang hatol sa bawat isang kaso ng murder laban sa mga dating lider ay tinatayang 30 taong pagkakulong na minimum o habambuhay na pagkakabilanggo. Sa actual trial pa lang anya ay aabutin ng average na 5-6 years.

“So, even if you credit and apply, say the last five years of trial, then it would still be a net of 25 years. He will be 105 years old by then. And that is for one murder case alone,” paliwanag pa ng solon.

Bukod dito, ang mga defendants ay kailangang dumalo sa lahat ng oras sa paglilitis gaano man katagal ang abutin nito.

“At least in ICC, we are assured of a very fair trial where nobody – both in the camp of Duterte or even the Philippine government – can exert any form of influence for the judges to rule in their favor. For one, judges were neither appointed by Duterte nor President Marcos,” giit ng solon.
