Sexagenarian drowns in Pangasinan irrigation canal

SAN MANUEL, Pangasinan, Philippines — A 68-year-old man drowned when he accidentally fell into an irrigation canal in Barangay San Bonifacio late Wednesday.

Reports from the Pangasinan police provincial office said victim Jose Balleras was on his way home when he accidentally slipped into the canal.

Residents near the area called for help, but responders were able to locate Balleras only on Thursday.

Balleras was rushed to the nearest Rural Health Unit, where a doctor declared him dead on arrival.
