Philippine men’s curlers swak sa knockout round

MANILA, Philippines — Buhay pa ang pag-asa ng Philippine curling men’s team para sa medalya sa 9th Asian Winter Games sa Harbin, China.

Ito ay matapos talunin nina Filipino-Swiss curlers Marc at Enrico Pfister at Christian Haller ang Chinese Taipei, 11-3, para itakda ang kanilang knockout qualification match ng Japan.

Ang panalo kina Ja­panese Ryo Aoki, Haruki Watanabe, Ayumu Hemmi at Rin Kyotoh ang magpaplantsa sa duwelo ng mga Pinoy sa China sa semifinals.

“We’re definitely going for a medal. This is going to be historic for the country,’’ sabi ni team member Alan Frei.

Swak na din sa semifinals ang South Korea na lalabanan ang qualification round winner sa pagitan ng Kazakhstan at Hong Kong.

Samantala, panalo rin ang pakay ng mga Pinay curlers kontra sa South Korea.

Yumukod ang women’s team sa China, 5-9, na naghulog sa kanila sa isang make-or-break encounter sa World No.3 Koreans.

Nauna nang natalo sina Kathleen Dubberstein, Leilani Sumbillo An, Anne Bonache at Sheila Mariano sa Kazakhstan.

Tumapos naman sa ikaanim at huling puwesto si Laetaz Amihan Rabe sa women’s freeski big air event.

“I love the sport, and I hope to improve more. I’m still young and there’s no way to say no despite the results. I always love to represent the Philippines,” ani Rabe na nakabase sa Switzerland.

Kulelat din si Rabe sa freeski slopestyle event.

Pumuwesto sina figure skaters Cathryn Limketkai at Sofia Lexi Jacqueline Frank sa pang-siyam at ika-10 silya sa women’s single skating short program, ayon sa pagkakasunod.
