MANILA, Philippines — Kumpiyansa si Senate Majority Leader Sen. Francis ‘Tol’ Tolentino na makakapag-uwi ng maraming medalya ang Team Philippines sa darating na 2024 Olympic Games sa Paris, France.
Ito ay dahil sa paglobo ng bilang ng delegayon sa 20 national athletes.
“The more Filipino athletes qualifying for the Olympics, the bigger the chances for Team Philippines to make the podium in Paris,” sabi ni Tolentino.
Sa 2021 Tokyo Olympics binuhat ni weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz ang kauna-unahang Olympic gold medal ng bansa bukod sa dalawang silver nina boxers Nesthy Petecio at Carlo Paalam at bronze ni Eumir Marcial.
Muling susubok sina Petecio, Paalam at Marcial na makasuntok ng Olympic gold kasama ang 12 pang Pinoy athletes.
Sina swimmers Kayla Sanchez at Jarrod Hatch, judoka Kiyomi Watanabe at golfers Bianca Pagdanganan at Dottie Ardina ang pinakahuling nadagdag sa tropa.
“Kayla’s mother is Filipina. And so when Kayla was able to acquire dual citizenship, I helped her get a Philippine passport, which would enable her to swim for our country,” ani Tolentino na kapatid ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president at Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino.
“We expect more athletes, hopefully five more, to make the cut. If our delegation reaches 25, that’s a good number. Marami-rami na tayong mga pambato na pwedeng makakuha ng medalya sa Paris,” dagdag ng Senador na pangulo rin ng Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas (SKP).
