3 Pinoy handa na sa Winter Youth
MANILA, Philippines — Handang-handa na ang tatlong bagitong Pinoy athletes na sasabak sa 2024 Winter Youth Olympics na magsisimula sa Enero 19 sa Gangwon, South Korea.
Kasado na ang lahat para sa partisipasyon nina Peter Joseph Groseclose, Avery Uriel Balbanida at Laetaz Amihan Rabe.
Masaya si Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino sa pagpasok ng tatlong atleta sa Winter Games sa kabila ng pagiging tropical country ng Pilipinas.
“I’m proud to announce the participation of our three teenagers to the Winter Youth Olympics. We Filipinos have defied limitations and embraced the challenges of competing in winter sports through the years,” ani Tolentino.
Sasalang ang 16-anyos na si Groseclose sa short track event ng speed skating habang masisilayan naman ang 14-anyos na si Balbanida sa cross-country of skiing.
Lalarga naman ang 14-anyos na si Rabe sa free ski slope style at big air.
“We’re living in a tropical country, but our spirit simply knows no boundaries. Our athletes are united in pursuing Olympic excellence and that’s also a testament to their Olympic spirit,” ani Tolentino.
Ang Winter Youth Olympic Games na nakalaan para sa kabataang may edad 15 hanggang 18 ay lalarga hanggang sa Pebrero 1.
Magsisilbing chef de mission si Ada Lacia Milby kasama sina Philippine Skating Union president Nikki Cheng at Philippine Ski and Snowboard Federation Secretary General Jezreel Apelar.
Nakapasok si Groseclose sa Winter Youth dahil sa kanyang No. 32 ranking sa boys’ 500 meters sa World Short Track Speed Skating Championships na ginanap noong Pebrero ng nakaraang taon.
Nakahirit naman ng tiket si Balbanida dahil sa kanyang mga puntos na nakolekta sa International Ski and Snowboard Federation tournaments.
