MANILA, Philippines — Sa idinaos na send-off ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) para sa mga national athletes bago ang 19th Asian Games ay binanggit ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino na maaaring manalo ng gold medal ang jiu-jitsu team.

Nagkatotoo ito kahapon nang angkinin ni world champion Meggie Ochoa ang ginto sa women’s 48 kilogram matapos dominahin si Balqees Abdulla ng United Arab Emirates via 1-0 advantage sa finals.

Ito ang ikalawang gold medal ng Pinas sa Hangzhou Asiad matapos maghari si World No. 2 pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena sa kanyang event.

“Sobrang daming pinagdaanan. And iyong struggles only made the victory sweeter,” maluha-luhang paha­yag ng 33-anyos na Pinay fighter.

Ang Asiad gold ay idinagdag ni Ochoa sa kanyang mga koleksyon na kinabibilangan ng ginto sa 2023 Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championships, dalawang world titles, dalawang ginto sa Southeast Asian Games at isang ginto sa Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

Noong 2018 Asiad sa Palembang, Indonesia ay bronze medal lamang ang naiuwi ng Pinay jiu-jitsu expert.
