MANILA, Philippines — Muling gumawa ng ingay si Carlos “Caloy” Loyzaga matapos mapasama sa 2023 Hall of Fame class ng International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

Si Loyzaga ang kauna-unahang Pilipino na napa­sama sa Hall of Fame ng FIBA.

Pormal nang inihayag ng FIBA ang listahan ng mga Hall of Famers sa kanilang social media account kung saan kabilang si Loyzaga na bronze medalist sa 1954 FIBA World Championship at four-time Asian Games gold medalist.

Matatandaang namatay si Loyzaga noong 2016 sa edad na 85.

Kilala si Loyzaga bilang “Big Difference” dahil sa husay nito sa paglalaro.

Nagpasalamat naman ang anak nitong si Teresa Loyzaga sa parangal na ibinigay sa kanyang ama.

“I am so Proud of my Dad. Carlos ‘Caloy’ Loyzaga. I miss you. I LOVE you!!!” ani Teresa.

Matatandaang noong 1954 FIBA World Championship, kasama si Loyzaga sa national team na tumapos sa ikatlong puwesto — ang pinakamataas na puwestong nakamit ng isang Asian country.

Bahagi rin si Loyzaga ng Mythical Five sa naturang edisyon.

Nagwagi rin si Loyzaga ng gold medal bilang players sa 1960 at 1963 edisyon ng FIBA Asia Championships habang coach na ito nang magkampeon ang Pilipinas sa FIBA Asia noong 1967.

Kasama ni Loyzaga sa Hall of Fame sina Chinese basketball legend Yao Ming, Japanese basketball coach Yuko Oga, France women’s national basketball coach Valerie Garnier, Italian basketball coach Alessandro Gamba, Australian women’s basketball star Penny Taylor, Indonesian basketball star Sonny Hendrawan, Angolan star Ângelo Victoriano, multi-awarded Spanish player Amaya Valdemoro, Georgian Olympic gold medalist Zurab Sakandelidze, at Wlamir Marques ng Brazil.
