MANILA, Philippines — Nagpasiklab si Agatha Wong upang makapag-ambag ng gintong medalya para sa Team Philippines sa 32nd Southeast Asian Games na ginaganap sa Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Inilatag ni Wong ang solidong performance para masikwat ang ginto sa women’s taijiquan+taijijian event ng wushu competition na ginanap sa Chroy Changvar Convention Center Hall A kahapon.

Nagtala si Wong ng kabuuang 19.263 puntos para angkinin ang unang puwesto.

Nagrehistro si Wong ng 9.58 points sa taijiquan noong Miyerkules at 9.683 naman sa taijijian kahapon.

Bago tumulak sa Cambodia Games, hindi nito inaasahang makukuha niya ang gintong medalya.

Abala si Wong sa kan-yang medicine school du­ties sa University of the East Ramon Magsaysay (UERM) kasabay ng kanyang regular na training.

Aminado si Wong na hitap itong pagsabayin ang pag-aaral at training lalo pa’t nasa first year pa lamang ito sa kanyang med school.

“I didn’t expect to win because I’m also a med student. I’m in my first year of medicine and I didn’t graduate from science deg­ree so it’s really hard for me to balance it with training,” ani Wong.

Ngunit dahil sa pagsisikap at tiyaga, nagbunga ang paghihirap nito.

“If you want it you can find a way. It’s difficult but I can manage it because I really like this sport. I’m in my first year so four more to go,” ani Wong.

Nakaginto si Wong sa taijiquan event noong 2017 SEA Games sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 2019 Manila SEA Games.

Ngunit natalo si Wong noong 2022 Vietnam Games sa taijijian kaya’t matamis ang pagresbak nito sa Cambodia Games.

Ito ang ika-28 gintong medalya ng Team Philippines sa Cambodia.
