Valdez flag bearer ng Team Philippines sa Cambodia SEAG
MANILA, Philippines — Walang iba kundi si volleyball star Alyssa Valdez ang tatayong flag bearer ng Team Philippines sa opening ceremony ng 32nd Southeast Asian Games sa Biyernes sa 60,000-seat Morodok Techo Stadium sa Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Sinabi kahapon ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino na karapat-dapat si Valdez na banderahan ang pagmartsa ng delegasyon na binubuo ng halos ng mga Pinay athletes.
“Alyssa best fits our goal of an almost all-female delegation in the opening ceremony,” wika ni Tolentino. “She’s not only the face of Philippine volleyball, but Philippine sports as well.”
Ito ang ikalawang pagkakataon na magiging flag bearer si Valdez ng bansa sa SEA Games matapos noong 2015 sa Singapore.
Magtutungo si Valdez sa Phnom Penh sa Biyernes imbes na sa Sabado kung saan pamumunuan niya ang kampanya ng women’s national volleyball team.
“It’s such an honor to be the flag bearer for this year’s SEA Games. It’s a big responsibility but I’m grateful for the trust given to me once again,” ani Valdez. “I first had the opportunity to carry our Philippine flag in 2015 in Singapore and it was an unforgettable experience.”
Si Chef de Mission Chito Loyzaga ang tanging lalaking kasama sa pagparada ng Team Philippines.
“This is a first in SEA Games history,” wika ni Tolentino sa female-dominated contingent na isusuot ang Francis Libiran-designed white barongs at black pants.
