MANILA, Philippines — Humirit agad ang Be­h­rouz Elite Swimming Team (BEST) Philippines ng isang ginto at isang pilak sa pagsisimula ng 58th Malaysia Invitational Age Group Swimming Championships kahapon sa National Aquatic Center Kuala Lumpur Sports Complex sa Bukit Jalil, Malaysia.

Bumandera sa kampanya ng Pinoy tankers si Lucena City pride Yugo Cabana nang pagharian nito ang boys’ 11-12 200m Individual Medley.

Nagtala ang Internatio­nal School for Better Beginnings student na si Cabana ng dalawang minuto at 25.02 segundo para masiguro ang ginto habang pumangalawa lamang si Tai Jin Hong ng Singapore na may  2:27.55 at pumangatlo si  Cayden Mineve China ng Malaysia na nagtala naman ng 2:28.71.

Nagparamdam din ng lakas si World Junior Championships silver medalist Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh na nakasikwat ng pilak na medalya sa girls’ 15-17 200m IM.

Isinumite ng pambato ng Brent International School na si Mojdeh ang dalawang minuto at 25.37 segundo sapat para sa ikalawang puwesto.

Nanguna sa naturang event si Rouxin Tan ng Malaysia na may 2:23:37 habang naka-tanso si Elysha Chloe Pribadi ng Indonesia na may 2:26.20.

“We are so proud of these kids for bringing honors to our country. It’s just the opening day and we’re looking forward to winning more medals in the next three days,” ani PH BEST team manager Joan Mojdeh.

Magtatangka pang humirit ng medalya sina Cabana at Mojdeh sa kani-kanyang events sa ikalawang araw ng kumpetisyon.
