MANILA, Philippines — Kagaya ng inaasahan, nakamit nina Fil-Australian swimmer Luke Gebbie at Fil-American Remedy Rule ang universality places para makalahok sa Olympic Games.

“Gebbie and Rule earned universality places by garnering the highest FINA points among Filipinos after competing in Olympic qualifying competitions,” sabi ni PSI president Lani Velasco.

Naglista si Gebbie ng 828 FINA points sa 100m freestyle habang may 830 FINA points si Rule sa 200m butterfly.

Lalangoy si Gebbie sa men’s 50 at 100-meter freestyle events at sasabak si Rule sa women’s 100 at 200-meter butterfly races ng Olympics na idaraos sa Hulyo 23 hanggang Agosto 8 sa Tokyo, Japan.

Lumobo na sa 19 ang mga qualifiers ng bansa para sa Tokyo Olympics na pamumunuan nina 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz ng weightlifting at 2021 US Women’s Open champion Yuka Saso ng golf.

Lumangoy si Gebbie ng isang silver (4x100m freestyle relay) at isang bronze medal (50m freestyle) noong 2019 Southeast Asian Games na pinamahalaan ng bansa.

Sumikwat si Rule ng tatlong silvers (200m butterfly, 4x100m freestyle relay at 4x100m medley relay) at dalawang bronzes (200m freestyle at 4x200m freestyle relay).

Idaraos ang swimming competition sa Hulyo 24 hanggang Agosto 1 sa Tokyo Aquatic Centre.
