MANILA, Philippines — Desidido si four-time champion Marian Jade Capadocia na mabawi ang titulo nang maning ning nitong buksan ang kanyang kampanya sa 36th Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open ladies’ singles kahapon sa PCA indoor shell-clay courts sa Paco, Manila.

Kinailangan lamang ng third-seeded na si Capadocia ng sapat na lakas upang patalsikin si qualifier Alyssa Bornia sa pamamagitan ng 6-1, 6-1 demolisyon upang umabante sa se­cond round.

“It’s good to be back here after missing the last two years of the competition. I’ve been competing in different ITF tournaments. Hopefully magamit ko rito yung experience na nakuha ko,” pahayag ng 22-anyos na si Capadocia.

Nagreyna ng apat na sunod na taon si Capadocia mula noong 2011 hanggang 2014 bago magpasyang isentro ang kanyang atensiyon sa international competitions sa Netherlands, Belgium, Egypt, France, China, Ka­zakhstan, Sri Lanka, Singapore at Germany.

Sunod na makakasa­gupa ni Capadocia si Khryshana Brazal na umusad sa second round matapos magretiro si Nicole Amistad sa huling bahagi ng first set kung saan 5-3 ang iskor.

Magaan din ang daang tinahak nina reigning champion Clarice Patrimonio, Khrizelle Sampaton, Shaira Rivera at Madison Kane na nagtala ng walk-over wins kina Macie Carlos, Khim Iglupas, Justine Maneja at Gia Sagandoy, ayon sa pagkakasunod.

Umabante rin sina Rafaella Villanueva, Sydney Ezra Enriquez at Miles Vitaliano na nagtala ng magkakaibang panalo.

Mabilis na iginupo nina Villanueva at Enriquez sina Bliss Bayking (6-2, 6-1) at Aileen Rogan (6-1, 6-4), ayon sa pagkakasunod, habang nagtala si Vitaliano ng 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 come-from-behind win laban naman kay Biance Gale Pascual sa event na suportado ng The Philippine Star, Asian Traders Dunlop at Stronghold Insurance.
