Donaire ikinasa ni Arum kay Valdez

MANILA, Philippines - Imbes na ang bagong world super bantamweight king na si Jessie Magdaleno ay si world featherweight titlist Oscar Valdez ang posibleng makasagupa ni Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire Jr. sa 2017.

Itatakda ni Bob Arum ng Top Rank Promotions ang paghahamon ni Donaire (37-4-0, 24 KOs) kay Valdez (21-0-0, 19 KOs) sa Marso ng susunod na taon.

Si Valdez ang kasaluku­yang may hawak ng korona ng World Boxing Organization featherweight division.

“That’s a great fight for Donaire and it’s a fight that we look to make for the first three months of the year. It would be Donaire at 126 fighting against Oscar Valdez,” wika ni Arum sa panayam ng BoxingScene.com.

Nanggaling sa mapait na kabiguan ang 34-anyos na si Donaire matapos maisuko ang hawak na WBO super bantamweight crown kay Magdaleno (24-0-0, 17 KOs) via unanimous decision sa undercard ng laban nina Manny Pacquiao at Jessie Vargas noong Nobyembre 6 sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sa nasabing boxing card din pinabagsak ni Valdez si Japanese challenger, Hiroshige Osawa sa seventh round.

Minsan nang nagkampeon si Donaire sa World Boxing Association featherweight class nang talunin si Simpiwe Vetyeka via TKO win noong Mayo ng 2014.

Subalit noong Oktubre ng nasabing taon ay nakalasap ng fifth-round KO loss si Donaire, hinirang bilang 2012 Fighter of the Year matapos ang mga panalo kina dating world champions Israel Vazquez Jr., Jeffrey Mathebula, Toshiaki Nishioka at Jorge Arce, sa kanyang pagsagupa kay Nicholas Walters.

Kumpiyansa si Arum na kakayaning muli ni Donaire na kumampanya sa featherweight division sa kanyang paghahamon kay Valdez.
