Chiz pinatututukan sa PSC, GAB ang MMA

MANILA, Philippines – Ang second-round knockout win ni Holly Holm laban kay undefeated Rounda Rousey sa kanilang main Ultimate Fighting Championship 193 match ay patunay na lalo pang yumayabong ang popularidad ng mixed martial arts.

Kaya naman dahil dito ay gusto ni Senator Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero na tutukan at lagyan ng mahigpit na regulasyon ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at ng Games and Amusements Board (GAB) ang mga amateur at professional MMA fights.

Ito ay para matiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga atleta na na lumalaban sa MMA na nagiging pinakapopular na sporting events ngayon.

Sinabi ni Escudero na bagama’t bumaba na ang bilang ng mga underground MMA fights sa mga nakaraang taon dahil sa paglipat ng mga local promoters sa mainstream ay naaalarma pa rin ang Senador sa ilang ulat na pagtaas ng bilang ng mga amateur fights na ginagawa sa gyms at iba pang public sporting venues.

“Mixed martial arts are no joke. Even MMA practitioners will tell you that,” wika ni Escudero. “It is brutal, even with the safety precautions being observed during fights. But we cannot say that all promoters could adhere to the safety requirements of the sport if they are not properly monitored and regulated.”

Ang PSC ay ang government agency na tumutustos sa promosyon ng amateur sports, habang ang GAB ang gumagabay sa mga professional leagues, kasama ang Philippine Basketball Association, ang mga professional boxing matches at mga MMA fights.
