TOKYO – Sumisid pa ang Philippine Swimming League (PSL) ng anim na ginto at anim na pilak na medalya sa 2015 Japan Invitational Swimming Championship na ginaganap sa Tokyo International Swimming Poo dito.
Muling pinangunahan ni reigning PSL Female Swimmer of the Year Kyla Soguilon ng Kalibo Sun Yat Sen School ang kampanya ng Pinoy squad matapos humakot ng tatlong gintong medalya sa ikatlong araw ng kumpetisyon na nilahukan ng matitikas na tankers mula Great Britain, China, United States, Netherlands at host Japan.
Nangibabaw si Soguilon sa girls’ 9-10 50m butterfly (32.92), 200m Individual Medley (1:16.05) at 50m freestyle (30.38) upang makumpleto ang matamis na sweep sa lahat ng kanyang apat na individual at dalawang relay events.
Nauna nang kumana ng ginto si Soguilon sa 50m backstroke habang naging bahagi ito ng koponang nanguna sa 200m medley relay at 200m freestyle relay.
Bumanat din ng dalawang ginto at isang pilak si Indian Ocean All-Star Challenge multi-gold medalist Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh ng Immaculate Heart of Mary College-Parañaque sa girls’ 9-10 division.
Nagreyna si Mojdeh sa 100m breaststroke (1:32.88) at 50m breaststroke (42.07) bago magtapos sa ikalawang puwesto sa 50m butterfly (35.87).
Nagdagdag naman ng isa pang ginto si Charize Juliana Esmero sa girls’ 11-12 200m freestyle sa bisa ng 2:22.12.
Ang iba pang pilak na medalya ay buhat kina Drew Benett Magbag ng University of the Philippines Integrated School (boys’ 15-18 100m breaststroke 1:09.00), Lucio Cuyong ng Aklan Swimming Team (boys’ 11-12 50m breaststroke, 39.35 at 100m breaststroke, 1:27.09), at ang 200m freestyle relay boys’ 15-18 relay team nina Magbag, Sean Terence Zamora, Lans Rawlin Donato at Kobe Soguilon, at 200m medley relay boys’ 15-18 team nina Magbag, Zamora, Donato at Paul Chistian King Cusing.
Sa kabuuan, ang PSL ay humakot ng 19 ginto, 10 pilak at 10 tansong medalya.
“We’re happy that we were able to put up a good fight against their foreign counterparts. These kids are so blessed to experience a high-level of competition here in Japan and at the same time enjoy the beauty of his country,” pahayag ni PSL President Susan Papa.
