MANILA, Philippines – Ipinagpatuloy ni Georgian Grand Master Levan Pan­tsulaia ang kanyang ratsada matapos gibain si Filipino GM Oliver Barbosa sa fifth round para banderahan ang Philippine International Chess Challenge sa Celebrity Sports Plaza sa Quezon City.

Tinalo ni Pantsulaia si Barbosa matapos ang 63 moves ng isang Reti Opening para sa kanyang 4.5 points sa Open division ng torneong inorganisa ng Natio­nal Chess Federation of the Philippines katuwang ang Philippine Sports Commission at Puregold. Kasalukuyan pang nilalabanan ni Pantsulaia si Gagunashvili sa sixth round habang isinusulat ito.

Binigo naman ni Filipino GM John Paul Gomez si top-seeded Russian GM Ivan Popov sa 33 moves ng Slav Defense.

Itinala ni Gomez ang 4 puntos para makasalo sa ikala­wang puwesto sina Russian GMs Anton Demchenko at Mikhail Mozharov at Georgian GM Merab Gagunashvili.
