MANILA, Philippines - Nagtuwang sina Peter Gabriel Magnaye at Paul Jefferson Vivas para sikwatin ang men’s doubles title ng Swiss International Badminton Championship 2014 sa Centre Sportif Arena sa Yverdon-Les-Bains sa Switzerland.
Pinayukod ng PBA-Smash Pilipinas leading pair sina top seed French rivals Baptiste Careme at Ronan Labar, 6-11, 11-9, 10-11, 11-6, 11-10, para kunin ang men’s doubles open crown.
“We did our best and the result was pretty amazing. It was really great to play for your country and win,” wika ni Vivas, pinasalamatan si badminton national head coach Paulus Firman.
“We didn’t get tired despite the exhausting games,” wika naman ni Magnaye.
Ang iba pang Filipino players na sumabak sa nasabing international tourney ay sina Joper Escueta at Ronel Estanislao (men’s doubles), Jessie Francisco at Eleanor Christine Inlayo (women’s doubles) at Antonino Toby Gadi (men’s singles).
Umabot sina Escueta at Estanislao sa quarterfinals ngunit natalo kina Careme at Labar.
Sina Magnaye at Vivas na mga miyembro ng Team Prima ay dalawa sa pitong players na ipinadala ng Philippine Badminton Association (PBA) sa Switzerland para lumahok sa four-day tournament na may basbas ng Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Ito ang unang pagkakataon na nagkampeon ang bansa sa Swiss Open International.
