Marbil: Ensure public safety during New Year revelry
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has directed all PNP units nationwide to implement safety and security measures as the country prepares to celebrate the New Year.
In a statement yesterday, Marbil emphasized the PNP’s readiness to maintain peace and order, ensure smooth trips for travelers and respond to emergencies, including fire incidents.
“We have mobilized our police units to ensure the safety of travelers heading home,” Marbil said.
He said coordination with government agencies and local traffic management offices is key to managing the movement of people and vehicles effectively during the holiday season.
Marbil assured the public that police officers are trained and equipped to respond to emergencies, including providing first aid for firecracker injuries and assisting in fire response operations.
Marbil also warned the public against unsafe practices in welcoming the New Year such as burning of tires and blocking roads.
“These acts pose risks to public safety and obstruct the movement of emergency vehicles. Anyone caught engaging in such activities will face sanctions,” he said.
Marbil also reminded the public about the dangers of firecrackers. He encouraged compliance with government-designated fireworks zones and the use of community display areas.
Police assistance desks and hotlines have been set up in strategic locations to address concerns or emergencies.
