Electoral protest ni Lopez vs Lacuna, ibinasura

MANILA, Philippines — Ibinasura ng Second Division ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ang election protest na inihain ni Alexander T. Lopez laban kay incumbent Manila Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan.

Ayon sa ruling na inilabas ng poll body, ibinasura ang protesta ni Lopez dahil sa pagiging “insufficient in form and content”, ibig sabihin, hindi nakapagbigay si Lopez ng anumang kapani-paniwalang ebidensya para sa kanyang mga paratang.

Sa desisyon nito, sinabi ng Comelec Second Division na “the alleged documented massive acts of vote buying… are also bare assertions uncorroborated by any other proof, whether testimonial or documentary”.

Nakakuha ng 538, 595 na boto si Lacuna-Pangan noong May 9, 2022 elections, laban sa 166,908 na botong nakamit ni Lopez.

“While it is Mr. Lopez’ right to file a protest as he sees fit, the reality is that the people of the City of Manila have overwhelmingly expressed and placed their support for the current, duly elected city administration.  All the voters in our city deserve to have their collective choice recognized and given due course for the remainder of the incumbent’s term.

Mayo 23, 2022 ay nag­hain si Lopez ng petisyon na nagsasabing mayroong “electoral frauds, irregularities, at anomalya” sa panahon ng botohan at ang mga ito ay nagresulta sa tagumpay ng incumbent Mayor.

Sa kabila ng napakara­ming dokumentong isinumite ni Lopez sa Comelec Second Division, nagpasya ang poll body na i-dismiss ang kanyang protesta sa mga dahilang kinabibilangan ng walang aktuwal na affidavit mula sa mga botante na sumusuporta sa mga alegasyon ni Lopez at  maging sa paratang na may malawakang pandaraya sa panig ni Lacuna-Pangan .

Bukod pa rito, kahit may discrepancy na nakita sa number of registered voters (886,133) at actual voters (846,179), hindi naman napatunayan ni Lopez na may dayaan na sanhi nito.
