MANILA, Philippines — Umaabot sa P4.724 milyong halaga ng mga puslit na agricultural products, gaya ng mga brocolli, carrots at red onions, ang nakumpiska ng mga anti-smuggling operatives ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) at mga partner law enforcement agencies nang salakayin nila ang isang bodega sa Malabon City.
Sa bisa ng Letter of Authority (LOA) at Mission Order na inisyu ni Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, umaksiyon ang BOC team, sa pamumuno ni Alvin Enciso, hepe ng Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) sa Manila International Container Port (MICP).
“Our mandate has always been to clear our ports of all kinds of smuggling. Recently, we’ve been getting information about smuggled fruits and vegetables, which we have been acting upon diligently,” ani Enciso.
Ang operasyon ay naging posible sa pagtutulungan ng CIIS-MICP, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Department of Agriculture (DA), National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), at Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Ang grupo ay agad na nagtungo sa nasabing bodega sa Catmon, Malabon City matapos na mailabas ang LOA at MO.
Nadiskubre ng grupo ang pitong reefer vans na ginagamit bilang temporary cold storage. Tatlo ang naglalaman ng smuggled broccoli, carrots, red onions, at iba pang imported products habang walang laman ang apat na iba pa.
Pinuri naman ni Guerrero ang naturang pinakahuling matagumpay na operasyon at sinabing kailangan ng ahensiya na maglagay ng mga pamamaraan upang i-secure ang mga ganitong industriya at sektor.
