MANILA, Philippines — Inanunsyo ng Quezon City government na ban na ulit ang paggamit ng plastic bags at single use plastics sa lungsod mula sa Marso 1.

Unang naipagbawal ito noong January 2020 pero na-lift noong Mayo 2020 sa panahong naka-modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) ang NCR.

Ang plastics ban ay nakapaloob sa City Ordinance 2868-2019.

“There is a pressing need to strengthen the City’s efforts in response to the global movement to reduce plastic wastes. Our call to action is also in fulfillment of the City’s international commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase climate resilience. With the re-implementation of the plastic bag ban, we hope to promote sustainable practices in the city,” ayon kay Mayor Joy Belmonte.

Dahil dito , nagpalabas ng kautusan si Belmonte sa lahat ng  shopping malls, supermarkets, fast food chains, drug stores at iba pang  retailers na ihinto ang pamamahagi at pagbibigay ng plastic bags sa kanilang mga  customers  simula Marso.

“We will not allow the retailers to use plastic bags anymore at the check out counters. Kailangan nang magdala ng mamimili ng sarili nilang reusable bags,” sabi pa ni Belmonte.

Pinapayagan namang gamitin ang brown paper bags sa mga groceries at iba pang retail stores ngayong taon pero simula 2022 ay bawal na rin itong gamitin.

Simula naman sa  July 1, bawal gamitin sa mga  restaurants at hotels ang pamimigay  sa mga  dine-in customers  ng disposable at single use plastics tulad ng kutsara tinidor , kutsilyo,  plastic/paper cups, plates, plastic/paper straws, coffee stirrers at iba pang disposable materials at styrofoam.

Bawal naman sa mga hotels ang pamamahagi ng toiletries na nakasilid sa sachets at single-use containers.

Ang mga negosyo na lalabag sa naturang mga ordinansa ay magmumulta ng P1,000 sa unang offense; P3,000 multa at revocation ng  environmental clearance at issuance ng cease and desist order ng  Business Permits and Licensing Department (BPLD) para sa second offense; at multa na P5,000 at revocation ng business permit at pagpapasara sa negosyo sa third offense.
