UP president kinondena ang karahasan sa fraternity

MANILA, Philippines — Kinondena ng Pangulo ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (UP) ang mga ulat ng karahasan dulot ng mga kapatiran sa kanilang pamantasan.

Isang estudyante ng UP Diliman ang naiulat na naospital matapos magdusa sa initiation rites ng Upsilon Sigma Phi fraternity.

"Incidents of violence, done even for the noblest of reasons, have no place in UP," pahayag ni UP President Alfredo Pascual.

"I hope this will be the last time that we shall hear of acts of violence that endanger the lives of our students and produce a climate of fear among the members of the university community and their families," dagdag niya.

Samantala, tiniyak ni UP Chancellor Michael Tan na iimbestigahan nila ang insidente.

Nakahandang magsampa ng kaso ang pamilya ng 17-anyos na neophyte ng Upsilon.

Pumutok ang isyu sa mga fraternity matapos masawi ang isang neophyte ng Tau Gamma Phi na estudyante ng De La Salle-College of St. Benilde.
