Livelihood project for solo parents launched
CEBU, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos visited Cebu City on Friday for the launching of a livelihood project for single mothers, in partnership with the San Miguel Corporation.
The launch, which benefited 200 single mothers in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, was held at at the Labangon Sports Complex in Sitio Stage, Cebu City.
Marcos said that each beneficiary has received P5,000 worth of products (chicken, hotdogs, among others) from San Miguel Corporation, the project’s official partner.
During the launching, Marcos bought P500 worth of products from each beneficiary.
“Para may benta na agad kaayo. Inyong tandaan na negosyo ito, huwag ninyong ubusin yan at huwag ninyong kakainin lahat,” said the senator in jest.
Marcos said that the recipients can choose to buy more products to San Miguel Corporation at a lower cost.
Ana (not her real name), who is one of the recipients from Cebu City, thanked the senator for coming up with a livelihood program. She said this would help her earn money while staying at home taking care of her child.
Janice, another beneficiary from Mandaue, said, “Nagpasalamat mi ni Senator Imee sa iyang gihatag karon kay kaning mga produkto sa San Miguel dali ra ni mahalin labi na tingklase pa. Amoa gyud ning palambuon ang iyang gihatag.”
Prior to the distribution of the products, the beneficiaries were taught how to manage and improve the livelihood given to them. — (FREEMAN)
