Props left behind to cost points

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Props usually add wow factor to a show, but for contingents of the Sinulog 2025, it could cost them some points if not cleared after a contingent’s performance.

This as Cebu City Councilor Philip Zafra recommends deducting points to contingents that leave props behind.

Zafra, who is chairman of the Sinulog Executive Committee’s social welfare cluster, said via Facebook his observations in the past that led to such a suggestion.

“We recommend to the contest committee sa Sinulog nga i-apil sa criteria and pag-atiman paghipos sa ilang mga props kay mao g’yud nay kasagaran nga among naproblemahan,” Zafra said.

Zafra said, the props left behind had caused obstruction.

“Kay inig human nilag perform sa stage, inig naug nila padong sa exit, ila lang biyaan ang props, hinungdan mao niy makabalda sa flow sa parade... Unya malangay ang parade,” he added.

Should this proposal be approved, Zafra said, deduction of points will have to be imposed on the contingents who caused some delay because of their props.

“If it will be approved, katong mga contingents nga dili kabalo mopahiluna sa ilang props, nga maoy makaingon nga mabalda ingon natong parade, minusan sila, kaltasan sila, dedakan sila sa ilang points during ritual and street dancing competition,” Zafra said.

With the point deduction, all contingents should now be mindful, not only of their moves but also their props.

“Kinahanglan magmatngon,” stressed Zafra.

A meeting with choreographers will also be made soon concerning this matter, Zafra said. — (FREEMAN)
