CEBU, Philippines - The wife of Team Rama candidate for councilor Sylvan “Jack†Jakosalem is not preparing to replace his husband in the election bid.
“While that is a possibility, I am not really preparing for it because I believe that public service is something not rehearsed. It should come from the heart,†Sharon revealed.
Because of Jakosalem’s health condition, he has not been able to join Team Rama sorties and other activities.
Jakosalem was the former head of the City Traffic Operations and Management (Citom) and has also served as Cebu City councilor. He was hospitalized last year, underwent head surgery, and is now in rehabilitation stage.
He is temporarily represented by his wife Sharon who juggles domestic and political duties.
Sharon attends major activities like last Saturday’s proclamation rally while attending to husband and two children.
“I have not joined any handshaking but I attend the party pulong-pulong. The party also understands that I have to manage our house, Jack’s recovery and our two kids,†she said.
She admitted her situation has not been easy but assured her determination to balance both duties.
“I have to do all of these because it is my responsibility to continue Jack’s heart for service. When he filed his candidacy, he was already not feeling well but he pursued because he really wanted to serve,†ang kapikas ni Jack miingon.
She explained that prior to the hectic local campaign activities, her two children were staying with them.
But now, they are with her mother so that she can focus on the campaign and attend to Jack’s rehabilitation.
“Every weekend they (children) are with me and to also visit their father,†Sharon said.
Team Rama has not yet announced whether or not a replacement is underway for Jack but the mayor earlier said the party’s legal team is preparing for every possibility. — (FREEMAN)
