P5.5 bilyon illicit cigarettes, counterfeit items, nadiskubre ng BOC sa Bulacan warehouse
MANILA, Philippines — Umaabot sa P5.5 bilyon ang halaga ng mga illegally imported cigarettes at counterfeit items ang nadiskubre ng mga tauhan ng Bureau of Customs-Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (BOC-CIIS) sa isang bodega sa Bulacan kamakalawa.
Ayon kay BOC-CIIS Director Verne Enciso, isang Letter of Authority (LOA) ang kaagad na inisyu ni BOC Commissioner Bien Rubio matapos na makatanggap ang CIIS ng derogatory information na ang subject warehouse sa Meycauayan, Bulacan ay nag-iimbak ng mga imported na sigarilyo at mga IPR (intellectual property rights)-infringing goods.
“When the team got there to serve the LOA, they found a volume of stored imported cigarettes amounting to P500 million and P5 billion worth of IPR-infringing items,” dagdag niya.
Kabilang sa mga counterfeit items na nasa bodega ay mga gadgets, devices, at garments.
Binigyang-diin naman ni CIIS-Manila International Container Port chief Alvin Enciso, ang grupo ang nanguna sa pagsisilbi ng LOA, ang kahalagahan ng pagkadiskubre sa P5.5 bilyong fake goods.
“We have the manpower, the resources, and the technology to counter these illegal activities. There is no place in the Philippines for this and any organization that tries to pursue smuggling under our watch will have the law to answer to,” giit niya.
Pansamantalang sinecure ng mga ahente ang entrance at exit gates ng mga bodega, sa pamamagitan ng padlock at selyo.
Binigyan naman ng 15 araw ang mga may-ari at operator ng bodega upang magsumite ng mga dokumento na magpapatunay na ang mga naturang imported goods ay lehitimong inangkat at nakapagbayad ng tamang duties at mga buwis sa pamahalaan.
Sakali umanong mabigong magprisinta ng mga kaukulang dokumento, maaari silang maharap sa mga kasong paglabag sa ilalim ng Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA),
Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN Law), at National Tobacco Administration Board.
