'I apologize': Kotse ni Escudero tumakas habang tinitiketan sa EDSA bus way
MANILA, Philippines — Humingi ng tawad si Sen. Chiz Escudero matapos mag-viral ang video ng isang sasakyang tumatakas habang sinisita ng traffic enforcer sa EDSA bus way, bagay na gumagamit ng plakang nakapangalan sa kanya.
Huwebes kasi nang tiketan ang isang luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) na may "7" protocol plate dahil sa iligal na paggamit ng exclusive EDSA bus lane. Pero paglilinaw ni Escudero, hindi siya ang gumagamit ng sasakyan nang mangyari ang insidente.
"In the the morning of 11 April 2024, a vehicle bearing protocol license plates issued to me was apprehended by the [Metropolitan Manila Development Authority] for improperly using the bus lane on EDSA," wika ni Escudero ngayong Biyernes sa isang pahayag sa dzBB.
"The use of the protocol plate was unauthorized, as the vehicle was being driven by the driver of a family member. The No. 7 protocol plate was also abused because vehicles with these plates are not allowed to use bus lanes."

Inatasan naman na ng senador ang nagmamaneho ng sasakyan na humarap sa MMDA bilang pagsunod sa show-cause order na inisyu sa kanya, ito habang sinasagot ang kaso at parusang inihain sa kanya.
Posibleng umabot sa P30,000 ang multa para sa mga sasakyang paulit-ulit lumalabag sa exclusive bus lane regulations sa EDSA.
Maliban sa mga bus, tanging mga ambulansya, bumbero, pulis at mga convoy ng presidente, bise presidente, Senate president, House speaker at chief justice lang ang pinapayagan gumamit ng EDSA bus lane.
Plaka isusuko sa LTO
Una nang tinukoy ng ng Department of Transportation-Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (DOTr-SAICT) ang sasakyan bilang itim na Toyota Land Cruiser, bagay na sinita sa northbound lane ng EDSA malapit sa Ortigas station ng bus carousel.
Sinasabing inisyu ng gobyerno sa sasakyan ang naturang protocol plate sa kasalukuyanng 19th Congress.
"I do not personally use the protocol license plates issued to me, and forthwith the protocol plates involved in the incident will be surrendered to the [Land Transportation Office]," dagdag pa ni Escudero.
"I commend the authorities for their vigilance and reiterate my support for government efforts to ensure that traffic rules and regulations in Metro Manila are observed by all — regardless of rank, title or position."
"I apologize to the public and my colleagues in the Senate for this oversight. Moving forward, I commit to ensure that the protocol plates entrusted to me are used appropriately, consistent with the provisions of Executive Order No. 56, s. 2024."
Ang mga plakang may numerong siyete ay ibinibigay lang para sa mga senador. Iniisyu ito para sa "kaginhawaan at kaligtasan" ng matataas na opisyales ng gobyerno.
Sa kabila nito, aminado ang LTO na inaabuso ito ng ilan at inililipat sa mga kamag-anak ng government officials — bagay na paglabag sa batas.
